Previously on The Jukebox at The Diner: “Back To School”…
So before I begin a little story from the late 90’s while working in Silicon Valley at Excite, remember Excite? Well, there was an outage that we really couldn’t explain to the higher-ups. I won’t bore you with technical details, but we used a utility (nfsd) that was sadly just a little unreliable sometimes.
While trying to figure out what we would say about what caused the outage, one of our Oracle database engineers posted a funny in the IRC chat room.
There was a solar flare at the exact time of the outage. Since I was the one who would have to “answer” for our “answer”, I made the executive decision to list it as the cause of the outage, along with several online references about the phenomenon.
As you may well be aware by the unusual appearance of pretty lights in your skies recently, there was a solar storm this weekend, and it caused a bit of havoc with our Zoom class. I eventually had to log off because Zoom kept crashing, but before I did I learned a couple of things I should have already known.
If you’re unfamiliar with the term “Pitch Deck”, one of my classmates presented a beautiful one for a rom-com, and he used Canva for it.
I’ve used Canva in the past, it’s what I used to design the poster for “Once Upon A Time In The West”, a chapter from Volume One of The Jukebox at The Diner.
That link previews the chapter exclusively on Maddisun’s Patreon.
I hadn’t thought of making a Pitch Deck with Canva, but that’s exactly what my classmate had done. I’ll be using Canva over the next month to bring a cool project for Maddisun to life, so I thought it might be fun to think about what a visual presentation for The Jukebox at The Diner would look like. I’ve added it to the “list of things to do”, but it probably won’t happen soon, so I’ll ask my classmate if I can share his with you next week. That’s because I finally got my Screenwriting book and this week I’m writing the first drafts of the script for The Halloween Special and a 10-12 page story summary for Volume One. Those are my main goals for this class. We’ll be diving into actual script writing in the next class.
In an update from last week, I did file my copyright for The Jukebox at The Diner.
Lastly, one of the stories I copyrighted was “Night Shift”. I’d like to informally announce that the “Night Shift” story I’m writing now for my friend Maddisun, “Poker Games & Pink Ladies” is the official first chapter of The Jukebox at The Diner Volume Four: “Night Shift”, the fourth (duh) volume in the series. This story is ongoing, at least through the first week in June, culminating in the release of Maddisun’s new single “Feelin’ It Again” on June 7th. Subscribers of her Patreon like me will get to hear it THIS WEDNESDAY so here’s the link again to Maddisun’s Patreon.
Here’s the link to the first chapter of Volume Four: “Night Shift”, currently in progress.

Thank you all so much for reading. If you’re new here check out the “New Subscribers” post.
